Ingredients:

  • 2 sticks butter, softened

  • 1 & 1/2 cup white sugar, divided

  • 1 large egg

  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

  • 1 & 3/4 cups all-purpose flour

  • 1 teaspoon baking soda, divided

  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder, divided

  • 1/3 a box of Forbes Candies Salt Water Taffy,

  • 1 cup chopped black licorice taffy (or any black taffy of your choice)

Instructions:

  1. Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).

  2. Combine Dry Ingredients: Whisk together 1 & 1/2 cups flour, 1/2 tsp baking soda, and 1/4 baking powder. Set aside.

  3. Combine Cocoa Dry Ingredients: Whisk together 1 & 1/4 cups flour, 1/4 cup cocoa, 1/2 tsp baking soda, and 1/4 baking powder. Set aside.

  4. Cream the Butter and Sugars: In a large mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter and white sugar until light and fluffy.

  5. Add Egg and Vanilla: Add the vanilla extract and egg and mix until combined. Divide the mixture into two equal parts.

  6. Mix Wet and Dry Ingredients: Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined. Be careful not to overmix.

  7. Chop and Mix in Taffy: Cut up the Forbes Candies Salt Water Taffy (we recommend using kitchen shears). Divide the chips in half and immediately fold into the two sugar cookie mixtures.

  8. Form Cookie Dough Balls: Scoop out tablespoon-sized portions of dough and roll them into balls. Place them on greased baking sheets, leaving some space between each.

  9. Bake: Bake in the preheated oven for 10-12 minutes or until the edges are golden brown. The centers may still be soft, but they will firm up as they cool.

  10. Optional Topper: With 3-4 minutes of baking time left, place a taffy in the center of the cookie.

  11. Cool: Allow the cookies to cool on the baking sheets for a few minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.

  12. Enjoy: Once cooled, enjoy your delicious black and white taffy chip sugar cookies with a glass of milk or your favorite beverage!
